The team makes it to the orphanage

I think it was the second night of the team being here the children got to danced for them.  It was also the first time they got to dance in their new costumes.
The dance was at night so the pictures are not great.  We will get some nicer pictures out later.
Back stage a quick change for the next dance.
They learned a new dance this year called the Coconut Dance.
We have been wanting them to learn it for a while.  When we finally found a teacher this summer and they only had a month to learn it before the team arrived.  They did really well.  The only problem was up stairs the stage was backwards and it threw some of the kids off, but they recovered nicely.
A few of the children were new to all the dances like SreyPow and Bunheoun.  These two girls learned all three dances in a month.

Nathan fit in fairly well playing with the kids.

Finally people tall enough to spike the ball.  Steve and Nathan are over 6 feet tall.

Day two at the orphanage the team started the medical clinics.
In 5 days the saw about 500 people.

Steve and Susan did the kids program.  Some of our children and staff helped out each day.

Nathan who wishes to be a doctor got to sit in and see what goes on.

Selmira a pediatrician was our doctor.
Ream helped translate for the team.

Grace Putnam later on used her veterinarian experience to help our pigs when they got sick.

Mary is a nurse from Arizona and Ream's cousin helping translate.

After singing and bible stories it was time to play.

Sack races are easy.

My favorite pictures were of the families watching the kids race.

Sally worked with Nathan a lot as the pharmacist.

Some of our kids who wish to be doctors or nurses got to listen in.  Hopefully it was encouraging to them and they follow their desires.

The local church that we were helping this day offered prayer for their illnesses.

Near by this church was Phnom Chisor,
It has the temples on the top of the mountain so we took the chance to run up there and show the team the sights.

Next day, next clinic.
We were in the village were Lim and Wut come from.

Sokun Ream's sister translated for a couple days.

Whitney Ream's niece helped translate as well, she also wants to be a doctor.
She just graduated High school this year.
She is about the smartest kid in the school.  She even won a scholarship to Japan this year.
But she did not pay the bribe or cheat on her test.
So she scored a C.
With a C she will not get any help for school and will not become a doctor.

Celeste and Max

More kids programs more sack races.

More fun for me watching the crowd.

Today they taught about Joshuah and the Wall.

Elijah showed the kids how to do a GUMBY, which was maneuvering your body around a pole.

Which provided a lot of entertainment.

Te-a can do it.

So can Rachanca.

Lim and Wut shows the team around his village.  Lim met his Grandma and niece on the walk.

Wut was a little shy but she really wanted to show us her house.  When we got there Wut's mom working in a field saw us and came to say hi.

This house was built by the neighbors, before this they lived in the bushes.

Third day, new church more clinic.

Different children helping Steve and Susan do the kids program.

This is Ream's nephew Hieng.
Ream's father's only sister got sick giving birth to Hieng many years ago.  So back then the family took her to the witch doctor and they tried to have the sickness beaten out of her.
It killed her instead.
It was part of the reason Ream's father became a Christian later on.
Hieng is now a Christian also and this is his church where we did this days clinic.

A lot of good came from something bad.

You want to make sure you wash your hands before you go to the doctor.

Amparo was triage for the clinic.  Deciding who should see who and often helping many of the people herself.

In white Pastor Khon Ream's father.

During the afternoons Susan helped the train Sunday school teachers.

In the afternoons Steve helped our children on the worship team in their playing.

We had a wonderful night getting the kids to worship with Pastor, Steve, Susan and Nathan.
Steve also left the boys a very nice guitar once used in a successful prison ministry.

I'll leave you with this.  A common site in the villages here is the naked chicken.
I have never seen one so naked before so I had to stop and take a picture to share with you.

The kids are baptized, next blog posting.
