4 boys

Out front for staff photos

Darow (Row) is eight and in the second grade. He is from the same village as Channee, which was helpful because he did not want to be here and when he saw Channee every thing changed.
He came with the pants and 2 shirt he was wearing with no shoes.
Normaly the Khmer family will dress up to go any where no matter what.
If it means leaving the property Ream puts makeup on.
So to see the state of this boy and his grandma was very different.
But he is wonderful and starts school Tuesday.

Channee came 11-24

Channee is 13 and is in the 5th grade. His grandma has cared for him since his was 2. Her heath is failing and she wanted him to be better care for. She said the last meal together was rice porridge. She told us he take care of her, he works the garden and catches fish to sell. We are told they live in a bamboo shack on someone else land. It was hard for her to give him to us because he is all she has but she knows this is the write thing.

Unlike previous grandma's we have met she is thinking about his future.

Ream and I are going top put money though her church for her to make up for Channee being gone.

If any one would like to do this for us that would be fine.

We can not give it to her directly. We can't have any money pass that would be thought of as buying a child. But we believe her sacrifice should be softened. It really helped Channee to know someone was going to help support her, so eh could think about himself now.

Bow came 11-09

Bow story was in an earlier blog about his family eating mushrooms.
Melor came 11-09

Melor and Chan Chow are wonderful boys, you can see it in Chan s' face. He always has a cute little smile. Melor is very responsible and caring. He will be a great help to the other boy who come.

3 boys

We have been a little busy.
We accepted 3 boy November 9.
Two of the boys are brothers and real sweet ones. They are very kind, smart, polite and shy. They where being raised by there Grandpa who leads a cell church in the village.

Our 3rd boy is sweet as well, but needs to be loved and nurtured.

He lost 5 of his family members at dinner. They ate some poison mushrooms by mistake.
He and 2 sisters where not there to eat dinner.
He spent some time begging when he was 5 or so.
He was fund by a man who started a near by school. He lived with him for a little while until he died. A second care taker also died.

The family that brought him to us has 4 of there own children and could not continue to care for him. He spends most of his time watching the cow in the field and staying up late watching soaps with the family. His school is behind because of all the free time he has had the last 3 years he day dreams a lot.

Ream and I have extra classes for the children to pick up where the teachers here fail.
The last three home works he has gotten A's on he was so happy.
We also told him we would have to hold him a grade if he does not try his hardest.

Then we where told that the teachers and the school will not do this because they get money from Japan for the children advancing, so no one fails here. We might have to bribe them to hold a child back, what a terrible system.
He is in 4th grade and should be in 2nd.

We teach them Math, English, and the Bible a long with tutoring their other classes.
Think he will catch up. He likes having a good family and is trying hard to do what we ask.
The other day the children where writing thank you letters the their sponsors and he was in tears because he can not write well. I should think his sponsors will be blessed for what they are doing for him.

We have given them some space for them to do a garden and of course there where nails in the dirt from the construction. Every time it rains I clear the yard of the ones that wash to the surface but it has turned out to be a blessing. We held a little economic class and told they would recycle them and would learn how to use the money for church, spending and saving.
They are going to use the money to buy a chicken and sell the eggs.

Ream told me they where so excited about this, she said I would never have to look for nails again.
When their next play time came they where out there coming the grounds.
In 3 days they found about 12 pounds of nails and other scrap.

One child asked if they would have to go home and pick rice this year and Ream said this is your home and we have no rice. He told Ream he wants to go home and stand at the gate of his grandpa 's place while they pick and ask what they are doing. He want to pretend he does not know what rice is. It was funny for him and Ream.

Over all we are tired with less sleep, but the days are fulfilling and meaningful.
We love what we are doing and the children love us for it.

Please pray for the orphans that are trapped by their care takers. We have had 4 enquires about bring some children only to have the care taker keep them. They are selfish and have said so. The care takers are old and make the children care for them. In away I understand their need to have the children's support. But the children also do not go to school and they will grow up to be disadvantage and it creates only more problems for the future.
The challenge here is there is no old home there is no service for the elderly so they cling to the children.
The one boy cooks, cleans, cares for the animals he does every thing for his grandma, which is nice but he is ten and he's not going to school. She might be dead in 5 years and he will have nothing.

I would like to support these types of families and replace their children with a care taker for the old people so they will let the children go to have a better future. We also met a lady here how is trying to start an old home but she only has land so far.

Thank you for your prayers on these things.

Dedication

Pastor Pat Calvary Chapel Fallbrook Present us with the key for the Orphanage.

These beautiful young ladies are from the Christian school Ream's sister in-law runs.
They do dances as fundraisers and really help the day to feel like a cerimony.
I would not have thought to hire them but I am sure glad they did.
Reams' cousin is the one kneeling in blue i think Ream said she 13 or some thing like that

This was the kitchen in use for the 150 guest.
Thats Ream back in the purple.
The dinning room was set up so nicely. The decorations where done by Sandy Olsen. When they said Sandy was coming to paint I was a little concerned because Sandys'favorite colors are lime green and purple. But Her tast where perfect for this with out seen it she matched everything wonderfuly.

During the day different villagers have dropped by to view the building many of them stopped to whatch Sandy paint. Again Sandy did a wonderful job and thank you to Jill for all her help in decorating and painting.

Sokon and Whitny
Sarah and Sokun
Joseph 6 kilo talks ( goo) a lot and laughs, just learned to role over yesterday.

A wild time at Ruth Orphanage Jake was a real hit with the children and a real help doing medical clinics.

We found this in the back yard , Hang says the Khamer Rough use to eat them in front of the villagers to scare them and make them think they have special powers. Hang says if it bite you swel l up. It was about 4 inches long and the head the size of my finger nail. It was so nasty and hissed at us when we poked it. Just one more bug you do ot want to know about.

After all the parties we where checking out our water system and as you can see the ghost like figure. I said our past has come back to haunt us, but Hang did not understand.

I am sorry for not updating until now. We have been busy with a lot of guest.
We have a team from our church in Fallbrook which includes our pastor Pat Herrel.

We also has a guest speaker Drew Mc Intire from Calvary Anaheim California here to teach the local Christians how to study the bible.

For the bible study conference we hosted about 100 people for a day and a half.

We also held the dedication and served 150 people. The day included a dance from a Christian school, ribbon cutting, tour of building, speeches and lunch. We where honored to have the Governor of the Provence there and the Director of religious affairs.

The governor, a Buddhist made the most wonderful speech, we thought he might cry.
The said Christians are like water where ever they go the grass and flowers grow. Which is awesome to know Christ is the living water and his blessings flow through us. I am happy they realize this, one day they will come to know Him.

Every thing has worked out beautiful and we can concentrate on getting the children.
We will accept boys for now until maybe January when we will look at receiving girls.

They will need your prayers for adjustment, we will need your prayers for adjustment and wisdom. Our commitment really begins soon.

We have 7 children on a waiting list so if you have a desire to support a child or the work it self you can use our email listed above to contact us about that.

I would also encourage you to begin making arrangements to visit us. We are receiving a lot of attention, so some notice and reservations are great.

We have some other needs,
Housing for many of the animals we hope to have.
A building for the generator,
Landscaping,
Driveway,
Playground equipment,
Solar panels,
The orphanage also could use some furnishing like cabinets and lockers, chairs, and kitchen supplies.

Ream and I personally are recovering from the babies medical cost.
We could also use some furnishings.

Sam and Joseph are great and healthy, Ream and I are doing well. Not so many illnesses lately we are getting use to things here. We as a family are so very happy to be here.
We know that are friends, church and family cares and supports us.
Thank you for you gifts they meant so much.
Next time I will have pictures to post.

Thank you

Joseph Lange Carson at 5 weeks 5 kilos now

Lange honoring the brother Ream lost to starvation during the war.

I hope this opens well on your computer the light that shines above the clouds here was full of color. The sky was one big rain bow. I had never seen the sky like this and I found it absolutes amazing. The roof of the orphanage turns out to be the favorite spot for many people. It is quiet, cool and beautifully, it also helps us get above the worldly problems and look a round at what god has made. It is the perfect place right now to take a time out.

This storm hit us the next day lots of rain. It seems to rain almost every day around 3 pm some times until early in the morning. Our pond which was about 3 feet shy of the top is now inches from the top I know it will over flow if there is much more rain like this.

The garden

I will have Ream post some recipes soon for egg plant.
Also I want people to know who have left such nice comments about the garden.

I have helped out but most credit goes to Hang who works very passionately in the garden.
I only try to add new ideas and foods that they do not seem to like.
The corn, tomatoes and basil from America has done the best. The rest we will have to try after the rain.
We are also going to try a green house to keep the rain from wilting the plants.
We are trying to sell some things in the market and trying to schedule things so they will be enough to feed the children. I know right know the children could eat the place dry in a couple of days.
We will soon hopefully have the ducks, chicken ready soon and prepare for rabbits.
This will be hard for the people here who do not eat rabbit.
Rabbit being one of the fastest reproducing animals will provide lots of good meat and a usable fur.

A prayer for rain.
The Temecula Team Saturday realized the need for rain and many of the rice fields where browning. So Sunday as Luke shared at church he also prayed for more rain. It started Sunday after noon for 3 days non stop flooding all over the country. The guy under the roof on the right is waist deep. There is not supposed to be water here the closest water way is miles a way. Here from the road you normally see fields, but to day we came across boat rescues and roads washing out. I know it had a lot to do with the storm in China. I also know the Sunday people saw the prayer of a man for rain and then it rained.
What was so important about this was that this Sunday they put on a small concert and more people came they where sitting out side and many of the people where not Christians. So they saw the prayer that brought Rain. God knew it was coming and used Luke for that moment to show non believers that He is real.

I hope this encourages Luke who thought "are we doing enough"
Thank you Temecula for your work here with us it is wonderful to know some of you wish to return.

Thank you everyone,
Your prayers mean so much to us rite now. Ream and baby are doing better. On Reams' check up the doctor said she would sew her up better next time. She did not worry about it so much this time because she would tare again with the next child. To here this was kind of upsetting.
But the main thing she is well.
This week would you keep a little girl I think she was 10 or so but she has dingy fever and Typhoid for about a week now. She looks healthy and she has the rite meds. But she needs prayer since either one could kill her.

Also would you keep myself (Kit) in prayer as this month has been very challenging.

On a lighter note we spent some time with some orphans tonight. It was such a blessing to see the simple joy of a child's life.
Thank you Terryberrys' for your continued support and prayer, thank you Stonebreakers' for your love and interest in what we do.

Sokcom 23 are two ladies that have come to work for Ream. They have begun sewing some of the purses Ream sells. Both ladies are from church Sokcoms' mother has AIDS and she works to help support her family.
We also have a weaver set up and one lady we sent to school to learn how to weave silks.
We also have a lady that will come and be our nanny she has an amazing story I will tell you next time.
Next field over they where using 3 pairs of oxen to plow and smoth the fields for planting
Wow this was a spicy radish. Tha package says cool weather for mild flavor. I have to plant them in December for that to happen. Also Ream and I are the only ones who liked it.
Their lady bugs are a little different,
